About the band
Jazz Pops Up is a stable band of professional musicians, only one of this kind in Slovakia. It was founded by piano player and arranger František Báleš in 2009. Since then, more than 150 concerts were played in Slovakia and abroad. The heart of the band is made of a jazz trio with a vocalist, and various well-known musicians perform with the band as special guests.
Jazz rearrangements of famous rock and pop hits are the essential part of the repertoire. The aim is to bring jazz music closer to wide public, as the original arrangements of famous songs will please fans of other music genres too.

„It`s a unique project on the slovak jazz scene. Because jazz is a minority genre here, I was searching for a way to approach jazz to wider audience. So called jazz standards are really beautiful songs, but they are known only by jazz musicians and few jazz fans. Therefore I was trying to find something, that people know well. I decided to rearrange famous rock and pop hits from 60-ties till now, in a way that audience can easily recognize them, so they can approach jazz from different point of view. They can enjoy it and have a unique experience with this genre.“
